  While shopping for a car for my daughter recently, we came across one that really caught our eye. Not only did my daughter fall in love with it, but my husband and I were also pleased with the condition and price of the vehicle. We visited the dealership twice within 3 days and were told by Tim Imari that he would not sell the car to anyone else. Before leaving Star Auto Sales on the second visit I made it clear that we wanted the vehicle, we agreed on a price and we SHOOK HANDS. This was on late Friday afternoon/early evening. I messaged him later to let him know we would not make it back before close of business on Friday but that we would be there Saturday morning at 10am to finalize the deal. He agreed to this replying to my text with “Ok perfect that sounds good I will see you tomorrow morning.” The next morning at 10am my husband and I arrived with checkbook in hand, ready to take the car home and surprise our daughter. As I pulled in I noticed someone getting into the car and leaving as if they were in a hurry. Immediately Tim walked across the car lot to me and said “I have bad news. I sold the car.” I was so taken aback by this that I wasn’t sure what to say. Before I could get any words out he followed with “He offered me full asking price.” (Which was only $200 more than the price Tim and I had agreed on the night before). He continued to ramble on, making it painfully obvious that he was nervous and quite aware that he was being deceitful. I asked him why he didn’t bother to call me because I felt it would have only been fair to A. Give me the opportunity to pay $200 more for the car or B. At least let me know he sold it so I didn’t waste my time and gas driving to Mattoon for no reason. Instead, he suggested that I just look for a different car. I have never been so disgusted by a business person in all of my life. There was a complete lack of respect shown for us, the customer. I have always been under the impression that a handshake and a man’s word means something. It’s unfortunate that Star Auto Sales (Tim Imeri) does not share that same business ethic. We will not be doing business with them again and we urge others to please be aware of how things are done at Star Auto Sales.
